The Basilica of Saint Paul
~ From The Very Reverend Robert E. Webster, Rector and Pastor
We are excited to announce that word has just been received today,
January 20th that His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI has signed the Papal
decree naming St Paul Catholic Church of Daytona Beach a Minor Basilica!
A Basilica is considered a very special Papal church known as “the home
away from home” for the Pope.
This is the first Basilica that Pope Benedict XVI has so honored and
only the 60th Church designated as a basilica in the United States. The
renaming of St Paul Catholic Church to “The Basilica of St Paul” marks
the first basilica for the Central Florida Diocese of Orlando and only
the second Basilica in Florida. The Basilica of St Augustine was named
many years ago. Churches are selected as basilicas because of their
historical significance and their liturgical life and example. This holy
and prestigious honor is given to recognize the 125 years of parish
community witness to faith, hope and charity, watchwords of St Paul
himself.
The news of this Papal decree has been received just in time to
celebrate – on Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at 7pm – the feast day of the
Conversion of St Paul, the patron saint of the church and the
celebration of our 125th Anniversary as a church in Daytona Beach. The
church is the oldest parish in the Orlando Diocese.
We would like to invite you, family and friends, to join us is the
historic event on Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm.
Celebrants : Bishop Wenski and Bishop Emeritus Dorsey

Pope has with a basilica. These three items will permanently be
displayed in the Basilica of St Paul.
The Basilica's Principal and Spanish Choirs will be performing under the
direction of Bill Brislin, Diocesan Director of Music, and David McGhee,
